Quick break from Reid-family-on-drugs and I-hate-the-f*cking-Cowboys, but I was looking around on PhiladelphiaEagles.com for a Trent Cole jersey (HINT: MAKES AN EXCELLENT GIFT/ they’re unfortunately on backorder), and I stumbled upon this hideous-looking brand extension they’re attempting to market as an “Eagles jersey.”
Trust me, I love the goofy merch (I own a silver replica shirt from like the ‘01 season, and thought the Swedish uniforms were a charming little flight of fancy for the team), but if you’re going to riff on the jersey, it needs to maintain at least some relationship with the identity of the brand. Silver? Check. Black? Yup. Lime green? Weird, but okay. Pink? These days, everyone owns pink. But this black/ blue/ gold thing doesn’t make any sense — you’re not allowed to riff on the imaginary colors you used for your throwback game (which you get a pass on from a brand perspective due to history and whatnot), even if it is a ladies jersey with sequins on the numbers. Rules are rules.
Slightly related: do we know what colors the Birds are wearing tonight? I know they like to make the Cowboys wear blue; does that still hold?
