A moment of the sublime from the blathermonkeys this morning.

After months/ years of baiting Andy Reid in person and in the papers, the locals got a rise out of him yesterday (which I mentioned in my Nerdbird game review). Not a big rise, mind you, but he did get a little pissy. Which is, in the grand scheme of things, pretty understandable, given that (a) his team is going to finish with a losing record, (b) his franchise QB might be damaged goods (forever), and (c) he and his family have been publicly humiliated and torn apart by his two sons’ drug problems.  Oh, and also he has to deal with these jackals in these charming little sessions four times a week.

The hilarious part is that they then went and made a big deal of his MINOR snap in the papers this morning.  Multiple blathermonkeys made mention of his tiny little outburst!  Like it was a big deal!  Like they hadn’t been asking for MUCH MUCH MORE FOR YEARS! 

I actually think that Reid’s demeanor with the Philly media is one of his most admirable qualities.  It takes a lot of patience and confidence to sit through that nonsense every week, with the clear understanding that the people in the room will likely get a bonus for successfully impugning your character or provoking an unwanted response from you.  They’re trying to get you to say something you shouldn’t, something that will generate a headline and hurt someone else’s feelings or undermine the confidence of your players or team.  And yet he stands up there and shrugs it off every single time.  That’s some serious professionalism. 

So, like I said yesterday, good for you, Andy.  You’ve earned it.  The blathermonkeys can piss off and moan about it in their columns.
