Donovan McNabb is scheduled to speak to reporters as part of the Eagles’ post-draft minicamp today. I’ve been able to get an advance copy of the transcript:
Donovan, you said earlier in the off-season that you thought that the team needed to bring in “playmakers.” Do you feel that the team has done that?
Well, I said that I thought that we needed to bring in playmakers in all phases of the game: offense, defense, and special teams. Obviuosly with the addition of Asante Samuel we have a proven playmaker, and Chris Clemons as well. We also made some acquisitions of guys who can help us on special teams. I also think some of the young guys we brought in in the draft and by trade, like Lorenzo Booker, have a chance to make a difference. So we’re very excited about the team.
Donovan, do you still think that the team needs to go out and get a true number-one wide receiver?
We have some great receivers on this team in Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown and Jason Avant and Hank Baskett. We brought in a guy like DeSean Jackson to add to that. We also have L.J. healthy. I think we have a great group of receivers.
Donovan, looking to the future, does it bother you that the team traded away this year’s first-round draft pick for a first-round pick next year, especially considering that you might not be here next year?
I think the team made a lot of great moves on draft day. I’ve always said that my plan was to play in Philadelphia for the next seven or eight years, and I’m looking forward to doing that.
Donovan, how’s your relationship with Andy? Does you guys talk regularly in the off-season?
Our relationship is fine. We talk sometimes.
Given your injury history, how does it feel to be healthy in the offseason?
Obviously, any time you rehab from an injury, it’s a different thing than being healthy in the offseason. It’s been great to be healthy and to focus on improving my body this offseason.
Is this your last season in Philadelphia?
As I’ve said before, I look forward to playing in Philadelphia for the rest of my career.
Yeah, this’ll be awesome. I’m considering counting all the times the local blathermonkeys ask him if he’s coming back next year — kind of keeping a running tally. We’ll see if that idea scales.
