What Would Buddy Do?
Specter continues quest to retroactively win Super Bowl

R LenDespite the best efforts of the NFL PR machine (and their associated Pats-luvin’ lackeys amongst the blathermonkeys) to indicate once and for all that Matt Walsh is a fraud and that we won’t be overturning any Super Bowls, thank you very much, Arlen Specter (R-Pa. (–you like that???)) remains unconvinced. He’s still demanding a meeting with Walsh, and encourages us all to be patient until we see “where the evidence leads.”

What he means to say, of course, is that HE WILL NOT SLEEP UNTIL HE DELIVERS WHAT ANDY REID COULD NOT: AN EAGLES’ SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP.

I find it mildly amusing that so many folks are focusing on Specter’s ties to Comcast as the motivation for his otherwise frivolous and borderline negligent pursuit of the Spygate story. Yeah, maybe. Or maybe he’s just trying to suck up to the pro football enthusiasts in his state (which = pretty much everybody), both flavors of which have been wronged by the Patriots in recent years.

Either way, we’re glad someone has the free time required to stick his finger in Roger Goodell’s eye about this.  Whatever we say about Spygate a year from now, we won’t say it was handled competently by the League office.  I don’t want to be the one to say it, but, ahem, this never would have happened on Tags’ watch.  Are we going to need to call David Stern to pinch-commish?

Specter should concentrate instead on the suspious vote counts on American Idol…

On one hand, I can’t help but think that the government has better things to worry about. You know, that war and recession everyone’s talking about.

On the other hand, I’m really damn retroactively pissed off about this. The Eagles (despite their potent 8-minute drill) only last that game by 3 points. If the Pats’ cheating influenced the outcome of 1 or 2 key plays, that might have been enough to make the difference in my continuing to be a bitter depressed Eagles fan and the dawning of a glorious new age.

I don’t see how they could award the Superbowl to the Eagles, since the Pats could have also illegally taped the Steelers, who crushed us that season, but I almost think they need to strip their titles from any season in which there’s evidence of cheating.

But the NFL will bury this.
